Cable Company Verses Free TV in Stand Off
By Grim Command of Grim Arcades
If you are a cable subscriber, this information could be important to you. On October 2nd, Bright House cable Networks went head to head with WISH-TV, WNDY, WIIH, LWS, WANE-TV, WALA_TV (FOX), and WBPG-TV (CW). For those of you that do not recieve these stations, you should know these are free television stations that can be accessed on local tvs, free of charge with the use of an antenna. When the 2 companies could not reach an agreement, Bright House was forced to remove the LIN TV stations. LIN TV Corporation decided that cable companies should charge their customers for these stations, claiming it would only cost the cable customers pennies a day per station. It doesn't sound like much, but when you combine the pennies over time and multiply that by all the cable subscribers, it ads up to several million dollars a year. Why should cable subscribers be forced to pay the extra fees, when they still have access to the staions, by hooking up an antenna or watching their favorite shows online? Many cable companies agreed to pay the fees, but if these stations get by with charging fees, the other free stations will follow, and cable customers will be forced to pay huge fees to keep stations that would otherwise be free. Bright House Networks decided to take a stand for it's viewers, and unlike Lin TV, instead of launching a smear campaign against the company, Bright House has gone out of it's way to give viewers a way to still watch their favorite shows. If you subscribe to any cable company, this is a battle to protect your rights to free tv. If Lin TV wins this issue and other stations follows, you could end up paying a great deal more for your cable. Show your support by visiting Stand Up for Indiana or Stand Up for Panhandle.
